Description

Upper Austria Flag

White over red, with the crowned arms of Upper Austria: the flag of Oberösterreich

This flag is split into two equal horizontal stripes: white above, red below. In the centre stands the state's coat of arms under a crown: on the left a gold eagle on black, on the right vertical stripes of white and red.

What the state constitution says

The Upper Austrian constitution says that the colours of the state are white and red. It gives the arms as the historic arms: a shield crowned with the ducal hat, with a gold eagle on a black field on the right and, on the left, a field split three times into silver and red. The state's own website adds that the arms may be shown in colour or in black and white, and also without the hat. I found no article that defines the flag itself, so this page speaks of the colours and the arms.

An eagle with a history

German Wikipedia traces the eagle back to an early crest with an eagle holding a pair of scales in its beak. It says this early eagle could point to the office of the Landrichter ob der Enns, and that from Albrecht VI the eagle in the Land ob der Enns carried the archducal hat. The current arms law was passed on 3 July 1997.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Upper Austria, Linz or Wels, or with roots there, for those who live far away and carry their state with them, for companies, clubs, schools and municipalities, and for lovers of Austria. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
