Description

Trentino Alto Adige - Südtirol Flag

Two eagles, two lands: the flag of Trentino Alto Adige - Südtirol

The flag of Trentino Alto Adige - Südtirol is divided in two, white above and blue below, and in the centre it carries the Region's coat of arms: four eagles, two black and two red. It is the flag of a region made of two autonomous provinces, Trento and Bolzano, brought together in one shield.

The coat of arms of 1983

The coat of arms and the gonfalone were granted to the Region by decree of the President of the Republic of 21 March 1983. The shield is silver, divided into four: in the first and fourth quarters the ancient eagle of Trento, black, surrounded by red flames; in the second and third the ancient eagle of Tyrol, red. Beaks and talons are gold.

The eagle of Saint Wenceslas

Trento's black eagle has a history of almost seven hundred years. In 1337 Nicolò da Bruna, who came from Moravia, was elected Prince-Bishop of Trento. To give the Principality's small army a prestigious emblem, he asked King John of Bohemia for the device on the shield of Saint Wenceslas, the flaming eagle. The king granted it with a charter signed in Wrocław in 1339, on the eve of the feast of Saint Lawrence.

A gonfalone in two languages

The Region's gonfalone is divided blue and white, with the coat of arms in the centre and gold lettering in two languages: «Regione Trentino-Alto Adige» on the blue side and «Region Trentino-Südtirol» on the white side. The flag grew from it: the same colours, the same coat of arms, on a white and blue cloth.

A rare flag

This flag is seldom seen: no law defines it, and those who have looked for it say they saw it above all at the Palace of the Region in Trento. That is what makes it special, for collectors and for anyone who truly loves this land.

Who chooses it

For anyone who lives in Trentino or South Tyrol, or left their heart there, for families who emigrated and the Trentino and South Tyrolean clubs around the world, for a town hall, a school or a Pro Loco, for mountain huts, ski clubs and alpine associations, for village festivals and Christmas markets, for a collector of regional flags. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
