Lazio Flag

Five provinces in an octagon: the Lazio flag

The Lazio flag is light blue and carries the Region's coat of arms in the centre: an octagon bordered in gold, topped by a crown and supported by golden branches, with the words «Regione Lazio» below. A rich emblem that brings together all the lands of the region.

One octagon for the whole region

Lazio's coat of arms does not have one symbol, it has five. Inside the gold-bordered octagon, in the centre, are the arms of the province of Rome; around them, arranged like rays, those of Frosinone, Latina, Rieti and Viterbo. It is a simple, strong way of saying that Lazio is made of all its lands together.

Bound by the tricolour

The arms of the five provinces are not kept apart: the law describes them as bound to one another by a tricolour ribbon. Green, white and red run inside the octagon and join Rome to the other provinces, as the Italian flag joins the country.

The crown, the ear of wheat and the oak

The Region's gonfalone, the banner of official ceremonies, is sky blue bordered with ultramarine. At the top it carries the coat of arms, supported by an ear of wheat and an oak branch and topped by a crown, finished in shaded gold; at the bottom the words «Regione Lazio» in gold, and at the base a golden fringe.

A law of 1984

The coat of arms and the gonfalone were adopted with regional law no. 58 of 17 September 1984. No law defines a flag: the Lazio flag in use takes up their design: the blue field, the coat of arms with the crown and the branches, the golden lettering. A solemn flag, at home in a public office as in a reception hall.
