Description

Municipality of Riola Sardo Flag

Yellow with a blue border, with the arms of the town: the flag of Riola Sardo

This flag is a yellow field with a wide blue border. In the centre, under the words «COMUNE DI RIOLA SARDO» written in an arch, stands a grey mural crown with a red lining, then a shield: in the upper part a bunch of wheat ears on blue and a bunch of grapes on red, below them a stone bridge with three arches over blue water in which a fish swims. Two leafy branches tied with a ribbon in the Italian tricolour frame the shield.

The arms and the gonfalone

The arms and the gonfalone of the Comune were granted by decree of the President of the Republic of 6 April 2005. The decree describes seven golden ears of wheat tied in red on blue, a golden bunch of grapes with its vine on red, and a silver bridge of three arches over water that carries a golden mullet. The gonfalone is described as a yellow cloth with a blue border, the same colours as this flag.

Between the river and the pond of Cabras

Riola Sardo is a comune in the province of Oristano, in Sardinia. Italian Wikipedia describes it as an agricultural centre of the Campidano di Oristano, standing on a low rise south of the banks of the Rio Mare Foghe, an important tributary of the pond of Cabras.

Mullet fishing

Fishing was once important in the nearby Mare Foghe pond, since drained and turned into a wide, almost still river, and the tradition continues: the Comune owns almost half of the water surface of the ponds, plus several kilometres of the Rio Mare Foghe, whose fresh water lets the mullet grow in less brackish water. The parish church of San Martino dates from the 16th century.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Riola Sardo or from the Campidano of Oristano, for those who live far away and carry their town with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for schools, associations and clubs, for a restaurant, a shop, a guest house or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
