Description

Municipality of Pavia di Udine Flag

White and blue, with the arms and the name of the town: the flag of Pavia di Udine

This flag is split down the middle: white on the hoist side, blue on the fly side. The words COMUNE DI PAVIA DI UDINE arch across the top in grey letters. Below them a grey mural crown with a red lining sits over a shield divided in two: on the left, blue with half of a dark eagle; on the right, silver with a green tree on a green ground. Two leafy branches tied with a red ribbon frame it from below.

The half eagle and the tree

Italian Wikipedia gives the blazon as a shield cut in two: in the first part, blue, with a half eagle in natural colours; in the second, silver, with a poplar growing from green. It says the gonfalone is a cloth split white and blue, and that the arms and the gonfalone were granted by decree of the President of the Republic of 20 June 1956. The Statute of the Comune says the Comune identifies itself in its deeds and seal by the name of Pavia di Udine and with the arms granted and described by that decree.

A comune with its seat elsewhere

Pavia di Udine, Pavie in Friulian, is in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, just south of Udine. Italian Wikipedia calls it a «comune sparso»: the town hall is not in the village that gives the comune its name but in the hamlet of Lauzacco. The comune includes a dozen hamlets, among them Percoto, Lumignacco and Risano, and its patron saint is Sant'Ulderico, celebrated on 4 July.

Villas, grappa and Friulian

Among the sights Italian Wikipedia lists are the sanctuary of the Madonna di Muris and several villas, such as Villa Lovaria and Villa Kechler in Percoto. At Percoto stands the Nonino distillery, known for its grappa. Besides Italian, the people speak Friulian.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Pavia di Udine or from the Friulian plain, for those who live far away and carry their village with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for schools, associations and clubs, for a winery, a distillery, a restaurant or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
