Description

Municipality of Olevano Romano Flag

White and light blue, with the arms of the town: the flag of Olevano Romano

This flag is split down the middle: white on the left, light blue on the right. Across the top, in arched gold capitals, runs «COMUNE DI OLEVANO ROMANO», over a gold crown. Below it, «SPQR» in green stands above a gold-framed shield showing an olive tree on a brown hill against a light-blue sky.

The olive tree and the S.P.Q.R.

The Statute of the Comune of Olevano Romano describes the arms as a shield holding a mount with three peaks on which an olive plant grows, with a plate above the shield carrying the letters S.P.Q.R. and a crown at the top. Italian Wikipedia says the S.P.Q.R. was granted by the Senate of the Roman Republic in 1849, when a column of men from Olevano broke the siege of Rome to bring supplies into the city.

White and light blue

Araldicacivica lists the gonfalone of Olevano Romano as a cloth divided white and light blue («drappo partito di bianco e di azzurro»). The statute says that the gonfalone, kept at the town hall, carries the arms of the Comune.

A castle on the limestone spur

According to Italian Wikipedia Olevano became a «castrum» in the Middle Ages: it appears under that name in a deed of sale of 1232 between Oddone Colonna, the new lord of Olevano, and Pope Gregory IX. The castle was built on a high spur of limestone rock to defend the village. The last lord of Olevano was Prince Camillo Borghese (1775-1832), husband of Paolina Bonaparte, sister of Napoleon.

Monte Celeste

Olevano Romano is a comune in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in Lazio. Italian Wikipedia says the village stands on Monte Celeste, on the edge of the Prenestini-Lepini-Ernici mountains, and illustrates it with a painting of the town by Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot of 1827.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Olevano Romano or from the Prenestini hills, for those who live far away and carry their town with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for schools, associations and clubs, for a restaurant, a shop or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
