Description

Municipality of Manocalzati Flag

Light blue, with the arms of the town: the flag of Manocalzati

This flag is plain light blue. In the centre stands a silver shield with a gold border, showing a flesh-coloured open hand rising from the base of the shield. A grey mural crown sits above the shield, and branches of laurel and oak, tied with a ribbon in the Italian tricolour, frame it from below. There is no text.

An open hand

Italian Wikipedia gives the arms in use as a silver shield with an open hand, in flesh colour, rising from the base, and says that the Statute describes «the palm of a gloved hand, open». It says the gonfalone is a plain light blue cloth («drappo di azzurro»), and araldicacivica.it lists the same. This flag is that blue cloth with the arms in the centre.

The valley of the Sabato

The town stands in the valley of the Sabato, in the basin of Avellino, between the hills of Toppolo and Sant'Angelo.

The castle of San Barbato

In the hamlet of San Barbato stands a castle of Lombard foundation, probably already of the seventh or eighth century, whose existence is officially attested for the first time in a parchment of 1146. The hamlet was an autonomous comune until 1869. Today the castle looks like a fifteenth-century Aragonese fortress, with two round sloping towers on the south side and two pointed ones on the north side.

The earthquake of 1980

The territory belongs to the seismic district of the Irpinia. In the earthquake of 1980 Manocalzati lost two people, fifteen were injured and 321 were left homeless, out of 2,573 inhabitants. The castle of San Barbato and the mother church of San Marco Evangelista were badly damaged.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Manocalzati or from the Sabato valley, for those who live far away and carry their town with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for schools, associations and clubs, for a restaurant, a shop or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
