Description

Municipality of Conza della Campania Flag

Yellow and sky blue, with the arms of the town: the flag of Conza della Campania

This flag is split down the middle: yellow on the left, light blue on the right. In the centre stands a blue shield with an eagle with spread wings, perched on a green mount of three peaks. A grey mural crown sits above the shield, and a wreath of laurel and oak, tied with a red ribbon, frames it from below.

What the sources say about the arms

Italian Wikipedia says that the arms and the gonfalone were granted by decree of the President of the Republic of 14 April 1975. The arms are blue, with a green mount of three peaks supporting an eagle with spread wings, and the gonfalone is a cloth divided yellow and light blue («partito di giallo e di azzurro»). The Statute of the Comune says the same of the arms and adds that the gonfalone is shown with them at ceremonies. This flag takes the two colours of the gonfalone and puts the arms in the centre.

Compsa, the old town of the Irpini

Italian Wikipedia calls Conza an important city of the Irpini. Its name comes from the Latin Compsa. It was an Irpinian, Roman and Lombard centre, then the seat of a bishop and later of an archbishop, and the archaeological area of Compsa still holds a Roman forum and an amphitheatre.

Destroyed and rebuilt

On 23 November 1980 the earthquake of Irpinia razed Conza, which lay near its epicentre, and the town was rebuilt on another site. The ruins of the Roman settlement came to light from the rubble of the old town. In recognition of the work of rebuilding, Conza della Campania received the gold medal for civil merit on 9 November 2005.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Conza della Campania or from the Irpinia, for those who live far away and carry their town with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for schools, associations and clubs, for a restaurant, a shop or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
