Description

Municipality of Città Sant'Angelo Flag

Blue with a yellow diagonal band, and the arms of the comune

This flag is blue with a broad yellow band running from the lower hoist up to the upper fly, edged in thin white lines. In the centre, on the band, are the arms of the comune: a gold shield with Saint Michael the Archangel striking down a dragon, and a row of small red houses below. A gold mural crown sits above the shield, and a wreath of laurel and oak, tied with a ribbon in the Italian tricolour, frames it. There is no lettering.

Saint Michael and the dragon

Italian Wikipedia says the arms show Saint Michael the Archangel killing the dragon, recalling the cult of the Angel that is also found in the name of the town. The arms and the gonfalone were granted by decree of the President of the Republic of 19 July 1986.

The flag

According to Italian Wikipedia, the gonfalone is a cloth of azure, while the flag is a rectangular cloth of azure with a yellow bar («sbarra di giallo»), charged in the centre with the city arms. Wikipedia adds that the institutional name is written in yellow Latin letters in the lower right-hand corner; this flag does not carry it, and the thin white edging of the band is not in that description either.

Civitate Sancti Angeli

Città Sant'Angelo is a comune in the province of Pescara, in Abruzzo, on a hill at 317 metres, part of the metropolitan area of Pescara. Italian Wikipedia says the first official act that mentions the place is a privilege of Emperor Louis II to the monastery of Casauria, dated 13 October 875, at a place called «Civitate S. Angeli», where there were a castle and a port. In 1239 the Guelph town was destroyed by Boemondo Pissone, justiciar of Frederick II, and it was liberated by the Allies on 12 June 1944.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Città Sant'Angelo or the Pescara area, for those who live far away and carry their town with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for schools, associations and clubs, for a restaurant, a shop or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
