Description

Municipality of Cabras Flag

Light blue and white, with the arms of Cabras

This flag is split down the middle into two halves, light blue on the left and white on the right, with the arms of Cabras in the centre. The shield is divided in three: a castle with three towers joined by walls in the upper part, a white goat standing on green ground in the lower left, and a blue fish on a silver ground in the lower right. A silver mural crown sits above the shield, and a wreath of laurel and oak, tied with a ribbon in the Italian tricolour, frames it. There is no lettering.

The castle, the goat and the mullet

The Statute of the Comune of Cabras says the arms and the gonfalone were recognised by the President of the Republic on 31 January 1992 and entered in the heraldic book of local authorities on 28 May 1992. It blazons the arms as divided in three: a castle with three towers joined by Guelph-battlemented curtain walls, the central tower higher and wider; a silver goat standing on green ground on blue; and a blue mullet («cefalo») set in bend on silver.

The gonfalone

According to the statute, the gonfalone is a cloth of white and blue, richly ornamented with silver embroidery and bearing the arms with the name of the Comune in silver. This flag takes the two colours, light blue and white, and puts the arms in the centre.

The pond and the Sinis

Cabras is a comune in the province of Oristano, in Sardinia. Italian Wikipedia says it lies on the shore of the Cabras pond (Mari Pontis), one of the largest in Europe, and that its territory includes the Sinis peninsula and the ruins of Tharros, a city founded by the Phoenicians around the 8th century BC. The giant statues of Monte Prama were found in its territory in the 1970s.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Cabras or the Sinis, for those who live far away and carry their town with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for schools, associations and clubs, for a restaurant, a shop or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
