Description

Municipality of Angri Flag

White, with the arms of the town: the flag of Angri

This flag is a plain white field. In the centre stands a shield divided in three: a pale blue top with three green mountains, a white band across the middle, and a red lower part. A grey mural crown with a red lining sits above the shield, a green wreath of two branches tied with a grey ribbon surrounds it, and a silver scroll with a Latin inscription runs below.

What the Statute says

The Statute of the Comune of Angri says the Comune has its own gonfalone and arms, following the iconography as it has historically formed: in the upper part three green mountains on a blue ground, a grey middle band, a red lower part, a gold turreted crown above, the whole surrounded by a woven wreath of holm-oak and oak leaves, with an inscription at the base. Italian Wikipedia describes the same arms: cut by a silver band, blue above with three green mountains, plain red below.

The valley of the Sarno

Angri is a comune in the province of Salerno, in Campania, between Naples and Salerno, in the agro nocerino-sarnese. It lies in the fertile valley of the Sarno, which Italian Wikipedia says was once part of the ancient Campania Felix, and the land rises to the south toward the Monti Lattari.

The name

Italian Wikipedia says the earliest name of the town was Angra, meaning «stagnant water» or marsh, formed along the banks of the Sarno; the name still survives for a peripheral area called Paludicella.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Angri or from the Agro Nocerino-Sarnese, for those who live far away and carry their town with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for schools, associations and clubs, for a restaurant, a shop or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
