Description

Municipality of Albanella Flag

Yellow, with two cypresses and two stars: the flag of Albanella

This flag is a plain yellow field. In the centre stands a blue shield with two green cypresses, each under a gold six-pointed star, on a green base. A grey mural crown with a red lining sits above it, and a wreath of laurel and oak tied with a tricolour ribbon frames it.

The arms of 1998

Italian Wikipedia gives the arms granted by decree of the President of the Republic of 22 April 1998 as «azure, with two green cypresses, with natural trunks, rooted in a green plain, each topped by a six-pointed gold star», with the outer ornaments of a comune. This is the design on our flag. The same page says it replaced the arms and gonfalone granted in 1974.

A new design in 2024

Italian Wikipedia says that the present arms, gonfalone and flag were approved by the town council on 28 December 2012 and granted by decree of the President of the Republic of 11 July 2024. They take up the 1998 arms and add the rivers Sele and Calore Lucano. The gonfalone is a yellow cloth, and the flag, granted for the first time in 2024, is a yellow cloth bearing the arms.

From a carved portal

According to Italian Wikipedia the cypresses and stars come from a bas-relief on the portal of the former Carmelite convent, dated 1725, probably an old bishop's emblem that over time became the civic arms. The town stands on a hill above the Sele plain, in the province of Salerno, in Campania, and takes its name from alvanello, a local word for birch.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Albanella, or with roots in the Sele plain and the Alburni mountains, for those who live far away and carry their town with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for schools, associations and clubs, for an olive grower, a restaurant or a shop that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
