Description

BDSM Rights Flag

Black and blue stripes, with a red triskelion: the BDSM rights flag

This flag has nine horizontal stripes: black and blue alternate from the top and from the bottom, and a white stripe runs through the middle. In the centre sits a white disc with a red triskelion, a three-armed spiral with a small white dot in each arm.

Who made it

According to Wikimedia Commons, the flag was made by an author named Tanos, and the vector image was prepared by AnonMoos in 2007; the page dates the original design «2005?». Wikipedia describes the designer as a Master from the United Kingdom. Its purpose is to affirm that people whose sexuality or relationship preferences include BDSM deserve the same human rights as everyone else.

From the Leather Pride flag

The BDSM rights flag is partly and loosely based on the Leather Pride flag, and it keeps that flag's colour scheme. The Leather Pride flag was designed by Tony DeBlase in Chicago in 1989 and first shown at International Mr. Leather on 28 May 1989: nine stripes of equal width, alternating black and royal blue with a white centre stripe. DeBlase gave the colours no fixed meaning and left it to the viewer to interpret them.

The triskelion

A triskelion is a motif made of a triple spiral or of other patterns in triplicate. Wikipedia notes that a common symbol in the BDSM community is a derivation of a triskelion inside a circle, and that this use derives from the Ring of O in the novel Story of O.

Who chooses it

For members of the BDSM and leather communities and their friends and allies, for organisers of community events and clubs, for venues, shops and groups that want to say they stand for equal rights, and for anyone who wants this symbol on a pole or a wall. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
