Description

Municipality of Rovereto Flag

Green and yellow: the Rovereto flag

The Rovereto flag is divided into two horizontal stripes, green at the top and yellow at the bottom. No figure, no coat of arms: only the two colours of the city's gonfalone, the ones the Comune itself calls its «traditional colours». Anyone from Rovereto recognises them at first sight.

The colours of the gonfalone

The Comune's Statute describes the gonfalone as a cloth divided in half, yellow and green, edged and fringed in gold, with the city's coat of arms in the centre and the words «Rovereto Città della Pace» embroidered in gold. The old gonfalone dated from 1928, and the Comune decided to replace it partly because its colours had faded over time. The flag carries the same two colours in their simplest form, the one to fly anywhere.

A golden oak for a coat of arms

Rovereto's coat of arms is gold, with an uprooted oak bearing acorns, in natural colours, flanked by the letters C.R. Beneath the shield a silver ribbon carries the Latin motto «Magno cum robore quercus ingentes tendet ramos»: with great vigour the oak spreads its mighty branches. In 1991 the crown of the arms became a city crown, to seal Rovereto's new title.

Castelbarco, Venice and silk

At the beginning of the fourteenth century Rovereto came under the lordship of the Castelbarco, who walled it and built the castle. In 1416 the Venetians arrived, enlarged the walls and rebuilt the castle; from 1507 the town passed to the House of Austria. In the eighteenth century it was an important trading centre, above all for silk, and in 1750 the Accademia degli Agiati was founded there.

Maria Dolens and the City of Peace

In 1925 the Bell of the Fallen, Maria Dolens, was placed on the castle's Malipiero Tower, cast the year before from the bronze of cannons of the nations that had fought in the First World War. Today the bell rings from the hill of Miravalle and is the symbol of Rovereto City of Peace, a title recognised by law no. 103 of 2006.

Who chooses it

For anyone who is from Rovereto or has roots in the Vallagarina, for families who emigrated and Trentino associations around the world, for the Comune, the city's schools and associations, for peace initiatives linked to Maria Dolens, for the city's festivals and events, for fans of Rovereto's teams, for a wine bar, a restaurant or a shop selling Trentino products, for anyone who has visited the city and wants to take a memory home. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
