Province of Cuneo Flag

Blue with the arms of the province: the flag of Cuneo

This flag is a plain blue field. In the centre stands a shield divided into four quarters, under the provincial crown with an oak branch on the left and a laurel branch on the right. One quarter shows red and white bars with a white cross on a red band at the top; another a white field with a red cross and the four black letters A, L, B, A; another a red field with a white cross rising over three green mountains; the last, blue over white, holds two fish-like dolphins, one gold and one blue.

Four districts in one shield

Italian Wikipedia explains that the arms, granted by royal decree of 31 December 1934, carry the emblems of the capitals of the former districts that formed the province: Cuneo, Alba, Saluzzo and Mondovì. The province itself was set up by the Rattazzi decree of 23 October 1859 with those four districts. An older coat of arms, granted in 1886, was in use before.

The red cross and the letters

The emblem of Cuneo is red and white bars with a white cross on a red band at the top. Alba is a red cross with the four capital letters A L B A in black. Mondovì is a red field with a white cross and three mountains rising from the base. For Saluzzo, Italian Wikipedia blazons a quarter divided blue over white with a gold gothic letter S; this drawing shows two dolphins in that quarter instead.

Gonfalone

The gonfalone of the province is a blue cloth embroidered and fringed in gold, with the arms and the words PROVINCIA DI CUNEO. This flag takes the blue of the gonfalone and carries the arms.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Cuneo and its province, for those who live far away and carry their land with them, for the comuni, their offices and civic ceremonies, for schools, associations and clubs, for a restaurant, a shop or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
