Description

City of Santena Flag

Light blue and white, with the arms of the city: the flag of Santena

This flag is split down the middle: light blue on the left, white on the right. In the centre stands a shield divided in two: on the left a silver field with a red chief bearing three gold scallop shells; on the right, blue, a gold castle with a tower on a green base. A gold city crown sits above, and olive and oak branches tied with a ribbon in the Italian tricolour below.

Shells and a castle

The Statute of the City of Santena describes the arms, granted by decree of the President of the Republic of 15 November 2006, as split: the first part silver with a red chief charged with three gold shells; the second blue with a gold castle, walled in black, battlemented in the Guelph manner, with a tower on the left, standing on a green field. Italian Wikipedia says the first part takes up the arms of the Benso family, and that the castle is in all probability that of Gamenario, demolished in 1864.

Light blue and white

The statute describes the gonfalone as a cloth split light blue and white, embroidered in gold and carrying the arms of the City, with the name in gold. This flag takes the two colours of the gonfalone, with the arms in the centre.

The town of Cavour

Santena is in the Metropolitan City of Turin, in Piedmont. Italian Wikipedia says it is famous for its asparagus and as the seat of the tomb of Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour, who is buried here at his own wish; the Benso family, bankers from Chieri, made Santena their residence. It became an independent comune in 1878, and the title of city was granted to it in 1937.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Santena or from the Turin area, for those who live far away and carry their place with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for schools, associations and clubs, for a restaurant, a shop or a business that wants to show where it belongs. For admirers of Cavour and the Risorgimento too. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
