Description

City of Santa Marinella Flag

Red and blue, with the arms of the city: the flag of Santa Marinella

This flag is split down the middle: red on the left, blue on the right. Across the top, curved, runs «Città di Santa Marinella» in gold. In the centre stands the shield, divided in two: on the left a silver tower with a gold eight-pointed star on blue, on the right a black anchor with a red stock and a blue star on gold. A gold city crown sits above, crossed palms tied with a ribbon in the Italian tricolour below, and a scroll with the motto «Castrum Novum et Pyrgi».

The tower and the anchor

Italian Wikipedia says the arms unite Santa Marinella (the anchor) and its hamlet Santa Severa (the castle). The statute describes the first part as blue with a silver tower, walled in black, with five battlements, topped by a gold eight-pointed star and standing on a green field; the second as gold with a black anchor with a red stock, topped by a blue eight-pointed star. Under the shield, on a blue scroll, the motto is in gold capitals: CASTRUM NOVUM ET PYRGI.

Castrum Novum and Pyrgi

The motto names the two ancient settlements of this coast: Castrum Novum, a Roman fortress that became a town, and Pyrgi, the port of Caere, today Santa Severa. Italian Wikipedia says the castle of Santa Severa, built in the Middle Ages on the remains of Pyrgi, now houses the Civic Museum of Santa Marinella.

Arms, gonfalone and the title of city

Italian Wikipedia says arms and gonfalone were granted by decree of the President of the Republic of 29 February 1992, that the gonfalone is a cloth split red and blue, and that the title of city was awarded by decree of the President on 7 August 1990.

From Civitavecchia to a comune of its own

Santa Marinella lies on the Tyrrhenian coast, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in Lazio. The name comes from the image of Santa Marina in a private chapel on the Odescalchi property. On 4 October 1949 Santa Marinella and Santa Severa separated from Civitavecchia and became an independent comune.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Santa Marinella or Santa Severa, for those who live far away and carry their place with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for schools, associations and clubs, for a restaurant, a shop or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
