Description

Municipality of San Cesario di Lecce Flag

Green, with the arms of the town: the flag of San Cesario di Lecce

This flag is a plain green field. In the centre stands a shield with a blue chief bearing the gold letters S and C; below it a purple bunch of grapes on gold on the left, and on the right a red and a blue field split on the diagonal, each with a gold eight-pointed star. A silver mural crown sits above, and a wreath of laurel and oak tied with a ribbon in the Italian tricolour below.

Grapes, stars and the letters S C

Italian Wikipedia gives the blazon granted by presidential decree of 7 August 1992: the shield is split; in the first part, gold with a purple bunch of grapes on a green vine with two leaves; in the second, divided diagonally, red with a gold eight-pointed star above and blue with a gold eight-pointed star below; and across the top a blue chief bearing the gold capital letters S and C.

A green gonfalone

The gonfalone described on the same page is a green cloth, richly embroidered in silver and carrying the arms with the name of the Comune in silver. This flag takes the green of the gonfalone and puts the arms in the centre.

In the Valle della Cupa

San Cesario di Lecce is a comune in the province of Lecce, in Apulia. It lies in the centre-south of the Salento, in the first ring of towns around Lecce, in the Valle della Cupa. Italian Wikipedia says the name is As Cisàri or Accisàri in Griko, and that Tancredi, Count of Lecce, gave the territory to the Celestine monastery of Lecce. The patron saint is St Cesarius of Terracina.

Who chooses it

For anyone from San Cesario di Lecce or from the Salento, for those who live far away and carry their place with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for schools, associations and clubs, for a restaurant, a shop or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
