Description

Municipality of Oratino Flag

Green and yellow, with the arms of the town: the flag of Oratino

This flag is split down the middle: green on the left, yellow on the right. In the centre stands a blue shield with a green elm on grassy ground, a gold crescent above it and a silver eight-pointed star on each side. A silver mural crown sits above, and branches of laurel and oak tied with a tricolour ribbon frame it. There is no text.

The elm, the moon and the stars

Italian Wikipedia says the arms were granted with the gonfalone by decree of the President of the Republic in 1988. They show an elm on blue, planted on grass in its natural colours, the symbol of the Roman noble family Giordano; above it a crescent moon, the symbol of the Vitaliano dukes; and at its sides two eight-pointed silver stars.

Yellow and green

The Statute of the Comune of Oratino says that the distinguishing colours of the town are yellow and green in two vertical bands. Italian Wikipedia gives the gonfalone as a cloth divided green and yellow («partito di verde e di giallo»).

The dukes of Oratino

Italian Wikipedia records that the fief was sold in 1630 to Ottavio Vitaliano, who became duke of Oratino in 1638. The last Vitaliano duke sold it to the Giordano family, who were named dukes of Oratino by a diploma of 10 August 1729, a title confirmed by the Kingdom of Italy in 1882.

The Rocca of Oratino

In the 12th century the Normans built a watchtower on the rocky crest near the old centre, over an ancient Bronze Age settlement and surrounded by old fortifications of the Samnite Pentri. Italian Wikipedia says the place is known today as the Rocca di Oratino. The town is a comune in the province of Campobasso, in Molise.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Oratino or from Molise, for those who live far away and carry their town with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for schools, associations and clubs, for a restaurant, a shop or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
