Description

Municipality of Fara Filiorum Petri Flag

White, with the arms of the town: the flag of Fara Filiorum Petri

This flag is white. In the centre stands a blue shield with a castle with a tall central tower and two lower side towers, built on the arch of a bridge above green fields. A gold mural crown sits over the shield, and a wreath of laurel and oak, tied with a red bow, frames it from below. There is no text.

The cloth

The site araldicacivica.it lists the colour of the gonfalone of Fara Filiorum Petri as white, and the Statute of the Comune says that the gonfalone, carrying the arms, is shown at ceremonies. This flag is the white cloth with the arms in the centre.

The land of the sons of Peter

Italian Wikipedia says that the name is of Lombard origin and means «land of the sons of Peter», placing the founding of the town between the sixth and the eighth century. The town lies in the middle of the Val di Foro, at the gates of the Maiella National Park.

The Benedictines and the old gate

Around the year 1000 the monks of Montecassino began to hold temporal and spiritual power over Fara through the nearby abbey of San Liberatore a Maiella. The only surviving part of the town walls is the Gothic gate, topped by a worn coat of arms.

The Farchie of Sant'Antonio Abate

The town is famous for the feast of Sant'Antonio Abate on 16 January, celebrated since 1799, when giant torches of reeds bound with weeping willow, the «Farchie», are built by the districts of the town and burned in front of the chapel of Sant'Antonio Abate. Italian Wikipedia dates the tradition of the Farchie as it is known today to the early twentieth century.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Fara Filiorum Petri or from the Val di Foro, for those who live far away and carry their town with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for the districts and the people who build the Farchie, for schools, associations and clubs, for a restaurant, a shop or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
