Description

Municipality of Colleferro Flag

Red and black: the colours of Colleferro

This flag is divided down the middle: red on the left, black on the right. It carries no arms and no lettering, just the two colours of the town.

The municipal colours

Italian Wikipedia says that red and black are the municipal colours of Colleferro. It describes both the gonfalone and the municipal flag as a rectangular cloth divided red and black («partito di rosso e di nero»). Wikimedia Commons lists this design as «Bandiera del comune di Colleferro (RM)».

The arms and the motto

The municipal arms were adopted in 1950, after a public competition announced on 7 May 1949, in which fifteen designs were submitted; the winner was the sketch by Guido Bonivento. According to Italian Wikipedia, the Italian tricolour in the field recalls the people who came to Colleferro from many regions with industrial development; the cogwheel and the anvil stand for industry, the spade and the rising sun for the farming of the Sacco valley, and the Roman aqueduct for the ancient remains in the area. At the foot is the Latin motto «In labore virtus».

Where industry met the Sacco valley

Colleferro is a comune in the Metropolitan City of Rome, in Lazio, in the south-east of the area, in the Sacco valley at the foot of the Lepini mountains. Italian Wikipedia says that the company BPD entrusted the design of the new centre to Riccardo Morandi, and that between 1936 and 1939 he designed or directed many works there, among them the church of Santa Barbara, the town hall and the primary school.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Colleferro or the Sacco valley, for those who live far away and carry their town with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for schools, associations and clubs, for a restaurant, a shop or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
