Description

Municipality of Castel San Niccolò Flag

Light blue, with the arms of the comune: the flag of Castel San Niccolò

This flag is a plain light-blue field with the arms of Castel San Niccolò in the centre. The shield is dark blue with a gold sun with a human face above a green mountain with three peaks, and it has a brown border. A silver mural crown sits above it, and a wreath of laurel and oak, tied with a dark-blue ribbon, frames it. There is no lettering.

The sun over the mountain

The Statute of the Comune says the arms, recognised by decree of the Head of Government of 3 June 1929, show a green mountain in the Italian style, topped by a smiling sun, on a blue field. Araldicacivica blazons them as a blue field with a green Italian-style mountain of three peaks, rising from the base and topped by a gold sun.

The gonfalone

The statute says the gonfalone has the arms on a light-blue ground, and Italian Wikipedia gives it as a cloth of azure («drappo di azzurro»). This flag is that cloth with the arms.

The Casentino

Castel San Niccolò is a scattered comune in the province of Arezzo, in Tuscany. Italian Wikipedia says its main village is Strada in Casentino, and that growing firs for Christmas trees is important in the area. The statute says the name comes from the medieval castle on the hill once called Ghianzuolo, above Strada. The Castle of the Conti Guidi, once called Corte in Vado, divided the republics of Arezzo and Florence in the Middle Ages, and the Romanesque Pieve di San Martino a Vado dates to the 11th century.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Castel San Niccolò or the Casentino, for those who live far away and carry their town with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for schools, associations and clubs, for a restaurant, a shop or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
