Description

Municipality of Cardito Flag

Blue and yellow, with twelve stars and the arms of Cardito

This flag is split down the middle: blue on the left, yellow on the right. Twelve five-pointed stars form a ring around the centre, each coloured the opposite way to the field it sits on: yellow on the blue half, blue on the yellow half. In the centre are the arms of the comune: a light-blue shield with a goldfinch perched on three gold balls, a gold crown above, and branches of olive and oak tied with a light-blue ribbon. There is no lettering.

The goldfinch

Italian Wikipedia says the arms of Cardito show a goldfinch (cardellino), echoing the name. It adds that this is only a play on sound: the name comes from the Latin «carduus», the thistle, with the suffix -etum used for plant names.

Where the design comes from

Wikimedia Commons describes this design as the flag of the comune of Cardito, drawn after the comune's own website, and credits it as based on the arms and on the Flag of Europe. Italian Wikipedia notes that the gonfalone in use is different: a red cloth with gold embroidery.

Between Naples and Aversa

Cardito is a comune in the Metropolitan City of Naples, in Campania, in the Campanian plain. It has a second inhabited area, the hamlet of Carditello. Italian Wikipedia says the town was once renowned for its strawberries and asparagus, and that today buffalo mozzarella is made there. The first settlements date to around 350-300 BC, founded by people from the nearby Atella.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Cardito or the north of the Naples area, for those who live far away and carry their town with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for schools, associations and clubs, for a restaurant, a shop or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
