Description

City of Arpino Flag

White and red: the flag of Arpino

This flag is a plain bicolour, divided down the middle: white on the left, red on the right. It carries no arms and no text.

The colours of the town

Italian Wikipedia says the gonfalone of Arpino, granted by decree of the President of the Republic of 9 July 1953, is a white cloth with a red pale. This flag uses the same two colours, white and red, in two equal halves.

A city by decree

The Statute of the Comune says the Comune identifies itself in its deeds and seal as «Città di Arpino», with the arms and gonfalone granted by decrees of the President of the Republic of 13 February 1953 and 9 July 1953, and that the title of Città was granted by decree of the President of the Republic of 13 June 1989. Its patron is the Madonna di Loreto, honoured on 10 December.

The arms

Italian Wikipedia gives the blazon: silver, with two square red towers, open and with windows of the field, set on green ground crossed by a river, and a black eagle with spread wings resting on the battlements, with a red ribbon above them carrying the silver words «hinc ad imperium».

The town of Cicero

Italian Wikipedia says the Roman orator and statesman Marcus Tullius Cicero was born in Arpino in 106 BC, and that Gaius Marius was a citizen of the town; the main street, the national boarding school and the grammar school bear Cicero's name. The town holds the Certamen Ciceronianum Arpinas, a translation contest on texts by Cicero, and has been awarded the Touring Club Italiano Orange Flag.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Arpino or from Ciociaria, for those who live far away and carry their city with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for schools, associations and clubs, for fans of the city's teams, for a restaurant, a shop or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
