Description

Municipality of San Paolo di Civitate Flag

Blue and red, with the name in silver

This flag is divided by a diagonal into navy blue and red, with navy at the hoist, below, and red above. Across the lower part, in two lines of silver-white capitals, is the inscription «COMUNE DI SAN PAOLO DI CIVITATE».

The gonfalone in the Statute

The Statute of the Comune describes the gonfalone in its Annex A as a cloth divided diagonally into blue and red, richly embroidered in silver and bearing the arms, with the inscription in silver, centred: «COMUNE DI SAN PAOLO DI CIVITATE». This flag takes the colours and the silver lettering of that gonfalone, without the arms.

The arms, point by point

This flag does not carry the arms. Annex B of the Statute describes them: at the top left Saint Paul with a halo, a sword and a book; at the top right an oak with an owl on one branch, with a bull's head and two grazing sheep; below, a golden eagle with its wings spread on a blue globe marked with seven black lightning bolts. Under the shield, a ribbon reads «SIGNUM OPPIDI S. PAULI IN DAUNIA EX RUINIS TEANI». Italian Wikipedia says the arms and gonfalone were granted by decree of the President of the Republic of 30 March 1976.

On the Fortore

San Paolo di Civitate is a comune in the province of Foggia, in Apulia, in the middle valley of the Fortore, on the site of the destroyed town of Civitate. The Statute names Saint Anthony of Padua as its patron saint.

Who chooses it

For anyone from San Paolo di Civitate or with roots in the Capitanata, for those who live far away and carry their town with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for schools, associations and clubs, for a restaurant, a shop or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
