Description

Municipality of Monte Argentario Flag

Blue, white and blue, with the arms and a ring of stars

This flag is made of three vertical bands: blue, a broad white band, and blue. In the centre sit the arms of the comune under a mural crown: a shield with two rocky peaks above a rippling blue sea, crossed by an anchor. A ring of twelve stars surrounds the arms.

A flag written into the Statute

The Statute of the Comune of Monte Argentario gives the comune a flag, to be shown with the national flag and the European Union flag in the town hall and in the Delegation. It describes it as vertical bands of blue, white and blue, with the white band in the middle, and the municipal arms in the centre, ringed by the stars of the European Community.

Two mountains and the sea

The same article quotes the blazon of the arms, granted by decree of the Head of Government on 27 April 1929: divided in two, with two silver mountains on blue in the upper half, the sea in its natural colours in the lower half, and a black anchor across the division, with the exterior ornaments of a Comune.

A promontory that was an island

Monte Argentario is a comune in the province of Grosseto, in Tuscany. Italian Wikipedia says its seat is Porto Santo Stefano, on the north-western coast, with Porto Ercole on the south-eastern coast, and that the promontory was once an island, joined to the mainland by two sand strips, the tomboli of Giannella and Feniglia, which enclose the lagoon of Orbetello. On the gonfalone, the Statute says, the arms are held at the base by two dolphins marked PSS and PE, for the two ports.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Monte Argentario or with roots in the Maremma coast, for those who live far away and carry their town with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for schools, associations and clubs, for a restaurant, a shop or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
