Description

Municipality of Narcao Flag

White, with the name and the arms of the town: the flag of Narcao

This flag is a plain white field with COMUNE DI NARCAO across the top in black capitals. Below it a grey mural crown with a red lining sits over a shield divided in three: a blue quarter with a large gold letter N, a gold quarter with two crossed pickaxes with silver heads and black handles, and a red lower part with a three-peaked hill topped by three ears of wheat. Two leafy branches tied with a ribbon in the Italian tricolour frame it from below.

The arms

Italian Wikipedia gives the blazon: the first part blue, with a gold capital N; the second gold, with two crossed silver pickaxes with black handles; the third red, with a three-peaked hill fixed at the base, topped by three gold ears of wheat arranged in a fan. It says the arms and the gonfalone were granted by decree of the President of the Republic of 13 February 2001, and that the gonfalone is a cloth split yellow and blue.

Mines of the Sulcis

Italian Wikipedia lists six abandoned mines in the comune: Mitza Sermentus, Mont'Ega, Peppixedda-Is Pilus, Rosas, Santa Croce and Trubba Niedda. The Rosas mine, near Terrubia, was recovered for archaeological and tourist use and reopened to visitors in 2009.

From the Nuraghic age to the blues

Narcao is in the province of Sulcis Iglesiente, in Sardinia. The first signs of settlement date from the pre-Nuraghic period, and the town's origins go back to about the year 1000. It became a comune by royal decree of the Kingdom of Sardinia of 11 July 1853. Near Terraseo, at Strumpu Bagoi, are the remains of a Punic temple of Demeter and Kore. The Narcao Blues Festival has been held since 1988, and the patron saint is San Nicola, on 6 December.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Narcao or from the Sulcis, for those who live far away and carry their village with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for former miners' families and mining heritage groups, for schools, associations and clubs, for a restaurant, a farm or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
