Description

Municipality of Ottati Flag

White, with the arms of the town: the flag of Ottati

This flag is a plain white field. In the centre stands a shield divided in two: on the left, blue, with a white crane standing on three gold hills; on the right, gold, with a haloed figure in a red tunic holding a pair of scales and a long lance, with a green serpent at his feet. A grey mural crown with a red lining sits above the shield, and two leafy branches tied with a ribbon in the Italian tricolour frame it from below.

The arms of the 2018 Statute

Article 3 of the Statute of the Comune of Ottati, published in the Official Bulletin of the Campania Region of 12 February 2018, describes the arms as divided in two: first, blue, with a silver crane, turned, standing on a gold hill flanked by two lower gold hills; second, gold, with Saint Blaise dressed in red, with bare arms and legs and a silver halo, holding a two-pan scale in blue in his left hand and a blue lance in his right, trampling and piercing a green serpent.

New arms in 2020

These are not the arms the Comune uses today. Italian Wikipedia says the arms and the gonfalone of Ottati were granted by decree of the President of the Republic of 18 March 2020, and the current Statute on the Ministry of the Interior's site describes the arms as a silver pheasant on a blue ground. This flag carries the earlier arms.

On the slopes of the Alburni

Ottati is a comune in the province of Salerno, in Campania, inside the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, on the southern slopes of the Alburni at 530 m. Cave dwellings once used by Basilian monks mark the rock above the village, and the church of San Biagio keeps a relic of the saint. Local tradition derives the name from the Latin optatus, because shepherds «chose» this place for pasture.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Ottati or from the Alburni and the Cilento, for those who live far away and carry their village with them, for the Comune, its offices and civic ceremonies, for devotees of San Biagio, for schools, associations and clubs, for a restaurant, a guest house or a business that wants to show where it belongs. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
