Description

Flevoland Flag

Blue, yellow and green, with a white lily: the flag of Flevoland

This flag has three horizontal bands: blue at the top, yellow in the middle and green at the bottom. The yellow band is not straight but gently wavy. In the top corner next to the pole stands a white fleur-de-lis.

What the official description says

The description of the Province of Flevoland gives three bands, dark blue, dark yellow and light green, in the proportion 16:5:16, with a white lily in the top corner of about one third of the height of the flag. The Provincial Executive (Gedeputeerde Staten) fixed the flag formally on 15 February 1989. It had already been flown for the first time on 9 January 1986.

Water, grain and meadow

According to Dutch Wikipedia, yellow stands for the rolling ripe cornfields, the flowering rapeseed and the arable farming; green for the flat meadow landscape; and blue for the water from which the province was won. The white lily comes from the family arms of the engineer Cornelis Lely, the founder of the Zuiderzee Works that led to the creation of Flevoland. The design is by the Amsterdam agency BRS.

A province made from the sea

Flevoland became a province in 1986, formed from the Flevopolder and the Noordoostpolder, land reclaimed from the water in the twentieth century (the Noordoostpolder from 1942, the Flevopolder in the 1950s and 1960s). Its capital is Lelystad.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Flevoland, Lelystad, Almere or Dronten, or with roots in the polders; for those who live far away and carry their province with them; for schools, clubs, associations and local businesses; for fans of the Netherlands and of the land won from the sea. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
