Description

Tyrol Flag

White over red, with the Tyrolean eagle: the flag of Tirol

This flag is split into two equal horizontal stripes: white above, red below. In the centre stands the state's coat of arms on a white shield: a red eagle with a small gold crown, golden bars across its wings and a green wreath behind its head.

What the state constitution says

The Tyrolean constitution describes the arms as a red eagle on a silver shield, crowned and armed in gold, with golden wing bars ending in clover leaves and a green wreath behind its head. It says that the colours of the state are white and red. I found no article that defines the flag itself, so this page speaks of the colours and the arms.

The eagle on seals

German Wikipedia says the eagle appears on seals from 1205, the wing bars from between 1271 and 1295, and the crown on a seal from 1411.

The wreath

The wreath behind the head first appears officially in 1532, and German Wikipedia says it became a legal part of the arms only in 1921. It recalls the Tyrolean struggle for freedom in the Napoleonic era. The state's arms law is dated 17 May 2006.

Who chooses it

For anyone from North Tyrol, Innsbruck or the Tyrolean valleys, or with roots there, for those who live far away and carry their state with them, for mountain huts, clubs, bands, schools and local businesses, and for lovers of Austria. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
