Description

Lower Austria Flag

Blue over yellow, with the arms of Lower Austria: the flag of Niederösterreich

This flag is split into two equal horizontal stripes: blue above, yellow below. In the centre stands the state's coat of arms: a blue shield with five gold eagles, two, two and one, topped by a gold mural crown with three battlements.

What the state constitution says

The Lower Austrian constitution says that the state arms are a blue shield with a gold mural crown with three visible battlements and, inside, five gold eagles, the upper four forming two pairs that face one another and the fifth turned to the left. It also says that the colours of the state are blue and yellow. I found no article that defines the flag itself, so this page speaks of the colours and the arms.

Five eagles

German Wikipedia says the five-eagle arms were formally adopted from 1804, in the Empire of Austria, as the arms of the Archduchy below the Enns, which is today's Lower Austria. In earlier times the birds were mistakenly taken for larks, and the number five is probably owed to the way they fit the available space.

The mural crown

German Wikipedia notes that the mural crown in the arms is a republican symbol.

Who chooses it

For anyone from Lower Austria, St. Pölten or Wiener Neustadt, or with roots there, for those who live far away and carry their state with them, for wineries, clubs, schools and local businesses, and for lovers of Austria. We sew it to order, in the size and fabric you choose above, and you see the delivery date before you pay.
