The billboard that moves: seven ways to use a flag in your marketing

Eight in the morning, you unlock the shop. The same sticker on the glass, the same poster by the door, the same as yesterday. People walk past, and nobody turns their head.

Here are seven ways to put a flag to work for your business. For each one you get the scene, the flag to choose, the size, and the moment to order it.

The mistake: one flag, once

Most businesses buy a flag for the opening and never think about it again. The next time they need one, the fair is ten days away and the supplier answers «about a week».

A flag works when it changes with your calendar. And your calendar has dates.

Why a moving flag gets noticed

A poster stands still, and the eye learns to skip it. A flag never moves the same way twice, and that is hard to ignore. We told the science in Why a waving flag catches your eye; here is what to do with it.

1. A QR code at the entrance

A customer stops at your door after closing time. A QR code on the front sends them to your menu, your booking page or your shop online.

A QR code scans best when it lies flat, so choose the banner: it does not fly, it is fixed. We print it and sew it to measure, reinforced on all four sides with eyelets in each corner, and it stays taut. The short side runs from 1 to 6 metres. Before you approve the draft, scan it with your phone from where people will stand.

Order it when the page it points to is ready.

2. A flag for each launch, changed with the season

Your pole outside carries the same logo all year. Put the new product on it instead, and change it when the season changes.

Choose the flag for a rotating banner bar: its sleeve slides onto the bar at the top of the pole, so it stays spread out even with no wind, and your message can always be read. Heights go from 1 to 6 metres; on a banner bar, the flag can be up to half the height of the pole.

3. Beach flags on opening day

Your new shop opens on Saturday. From the road, it looks like every other door.

4. A desk flag at the fair

At a fair, people walk down the aisle looking for a reason to stop. A small flag on your counter gives them one: your colours, at eye level.

5. Hand flags for your customers at an event

A race, a concert, a match you sponsor. Give every person a flag with your logo, and your name is in the photos they take.

6. A flag in the window instead of a sticker

A sticker is flat against the glass. A flag hanging in the window has depth, colour and fabric that moves when the door opens.

Choose a classic flag on a stick: for a stick up to 1.5 m long, our size guide suggests a flag 70 cm high. In Nautical Polyester the back looks just like the front, so your colours show inside the shop too; only text reads mirrored.

7. Your flag at the pole, every morning

Every morning someone raises your flag. Your team sees it on the way in; every customer sees it before they see your door.

Choose the classic flag, sized to the pole: 100 × 150 cm or 120 × 180 cm on a pole of 4 to 5 metres, 150 × 225 cm on a 6 m pole. Or the vertical flag, tall and narrow, from 1 to 6 metres high. The moment to order

Each use above has a date: the opening, the fair, the launch, the event. The product page shows you the delivery date before you pay, for your address and the option you choose.

One Saturday, a classic flag for an address in Rome showed Express on the Tuesday after, three days later, Standard on the Friday after, six days later, and Economy on a Thursday, nineteen days later. If our designer prepares your draft, add up to 24 hours, and the date counts from your approval. Order while the date on the page still falls before yours. If we are late with Express, you get a full refund and the flag is still yours.

Nautical Polyester

Our standard outdoor flag fabric, and the one most customers choose. 100% polyester, 115 g/m², tightly knitted with no mesh holes, so colours stay bright and the flag dries quickly after rain. Resistant to sunlight, suitable indoors and outdoors. Machine washable at 30°C.

Long Life

A heavier fabric for flags that fly all year. 100% polyester, 120 g/m², knitted with a denser, knotted weave that holds its shape and resists tearing at the hoist. Resistant to wind and sunlight — the choice when Nautical Polyester does not last long enough. Machine washable at 30°C.

Storm Flag

Our most wind-resistant fabric, for exposed places. 100% polyester, 115 g/m², woven so it cannot run or fray, with reinforced holes that let gusts through instead of pulling at the seams. Resistant to wind and sunlight. Machine washable at 30°C.

Satin

A glossy, silky fabric for indoor and ceremonial flags. 100% polyester, 125 g/m², opaque, so the design shows through to the back only faintly — a double-sided satin flag is sewn from two panels with a lining between them. For room flags, table flags and presentation. Machine washable at 30°C.

Display

A heavy fabric for decoration and banners, not for flying. 100% polyester, 220 g/m², thick and opaque, so the print is visible on the front only. Resistant to sunlight, for indoor and outdoor decoration. Machine washable at 30°C.

Black sleeve, left

The flag is cut clean and a black 100% polyester sleeve is sewn along the left side, for the pole to slide into. The open edge is machine-hemmed.

Bunting with 30 flags

Thirty flags, hot cut on every side, sewn onto a ribbon every 13 cm. The line is 10 m long, with a further metre of free ribbon at each end for tying it up.
