Flags for business

Who can earn from a flag design (and does not know it yet)

You are standing in a crowd that sings the same song. Above your head, somebody waves a flag in colours you know by heart. Somebody drew that flag once, and most of the time nobody earns a cent from it.

If you have a symbol people gather under, it can become a flag people buy, and part of every sale is yours. Here are the people who already have one, often without knowing it: sailing clubs, bands, sports clubs and their supporters, designers, associations, towns and festivals. You will also see what it costs and what comes back.

The mistake: the box in the cupboard

The usual way goes like this. The club orders fifty flags, guesses the sizes, pays upfront and stores the box. Half the members want a different size, the other half never ask, and the box sits in a cupboard until the colours change.

With Flag Studio nobody buys stock. Your design goes on sale in our shop, each person orders their own, and we sew it after the order, in the size that person chose.

Sailing clubs: one flag on every boat

A sailing club in Naples is our customer: it flies our flags on its boats and at its regattas. A club flag is the most personal flag there is. Every member flies it from their own boat, and every boat needs its own size.

Put the club flag and the regatta flag on your page, and each member orders the one that fits, when the old one is worn. The club stores nothing, collects nothing and ships nothing.

With Flag Studio Pro the club can go further. Its flags become private: only the people you invite can see them and buy them. The club flag stays among members.

Bands: the tour flag, sold at the concert

Picture the end of the show. The lights come up, and on the screen behind the stage there is a QR code. It opens your page in our shop, where the tour flag waits.

The fan scans it, picks the size, types a postcode and sees the delivery date before paying. The flag reaches their home after the show, anywhere in the European Union. Nobody carries boxes to the merch stand, and no flag is left over when the tour ends.

Every flag sold that night pays you your share. So does every flag sold a year later, when a fan who missed the concert finds the link.

Sports clubs and their supporters

Imagine the curva ten minutes before kick-off. A wall of flags in the same colours, from the front row to the last. Now imagine the away match: three hundred supporters on the coach, and every one of them carries the same flag.

That flag can be on sale under the club's name. The club puts its flags on its own page, the supporters order them, and we sew, ship and take care of invoices and returns. The share comes back to the club on every sale.

Supporters' groups can do the same with designs of their own. The rights decide what goes on sale:

  • the club crest belongs to the club, so it needs the holder's letter, naming the design and allowing us to print and sell it;
  • a group's own design, its colours and its stripes, belongs to whoever drew it.

When you apply, you take responsibility for the rights. We read the letter before publishing.

Illustrators and designers: a collection under your name

If you draw flags, logos or symbols, every design goes on sale under your name, on a page of your own that lists them all. You share one link, and whoever opens it finds your whole catalogue.

That is what Vexonaut, a vexillology enthusiast, does today: 59 flags on one page, 33 institutional and 26 sport, each one a product of the shop.

Associations, towns and festivals

Some flags come back every year on the same date. The flag of the village feast. The banner of the palio district. The flag of the association's fiftieth anniversary.

Put them on your page once. Every year, when the date comes round, the people who belong to it order a new one.

Public-domain designs pay too. Once.

You do not have to be the author. A public-domain or openly licensed design (CC0, CC BY or CC BY-SA) pays you like your own, because finding it, checking it and uploading it is work. Non-commercial («NC») licences are not accepted.

The same design enters the catalogue only once. Whoever gets there first, gets there.

What it costs and what you earn

Two plans, and you pay only after we accept you:

  • Flag Studio Base, 5 € + VAT a month: your designs on sale under your name, on your own page, with your share on every sale.
  • Flag Studio Pro, 19 € + VAT a month: Base included, plus private flags, limits on sizes, proportions, finishes and materials, and your share given to buyers as a discount if you prefer. In every month your flags sell at least 100 €, the 19 € come back to you as shop credit.

Your share is 15% when an ordinary customer buys, 8% when a reseller buys or when we also pay the affiliate who brought the customer. It matures when the order's return window closes. From 100 € matured you request the payout, once a month at most, with no fee.

The flag costs the buyer what the others cost. Your share comes out of our margin, not out of their pocket.

The moment: before the first date on your calendar

Every group on this list has a calendar. The first regatta, the first concert of the tour, the first match of the season, the day of the feast. Fans buy before those dates, not after.

So the day to apply is before the first one. You apply, we answer, you activate your plan, you upload your designs: give each step its time, and start now. Applying is free.

One page to begin: apply to Flag Studio.

You design what people rally under.
